Pastor

Sam and Judith Devine and their two sons, Christopher and Nathan came to Limerick in 2003.  Originally from Belfast they arrived from Donegal Town where they had lived for 8 years.  With a name like Devine one would have thought Sam was destined to become a Pastor !  However, he swiftly points out that his school teachers used to say, Devine by name but not by nature !

Sam was a laboratory research technician before studying Theology at the Irish Baptist College and Queen's University Belfast. He spent over two years as a Youth Worker in Newtownbreda Baptist in Belfast before joining the staff of Baptist Missions. He then spent a year and a half in Sligo before moving to Donegal Town. It was there that Sam and Judith served with Baptist Missions in a church planting role.

Sensing that their time was coming to an end they began praying and exploring other areas of ministry. Sam recalls his first visit to speak at Limerick Baptist,
'I instantly felt at home and had a growing sense that this was where God would have us'. Sam's heart is for bible teaching that is real and relevant and that works its way out in practical Christianity. He has a passion to lead and to see others use their gifts. To build deep relationships and to impact people with the love and truth of Christ. His longing is that we become a church that does the purposes which God has called us to in our generation.

Sam enjoys reading, swimming, watching a good film, trying out the latest coffee shop and keeping up to date with his favourite football team - Leeds United. Don't worry, we are praying for him !  He has since adopted Munster as his rugby team of choice while Leeds languish in the lower divisions !
